چکیده

This paper deals with WF-net based modeling and verification of interorganizational workflows (interworkflows for short) based on the protocol of WfMC. In the protocol, there are three patterns of interoperability: Chained, Nested, and Parallel synchronized; and an interworkflow is constructed by using those interoperability patterns. We first give a WF-net based modeling method. In this modeling method, the three interoperability patterns are respectively expressed in terms of WF-nets. They enable us to model a given interworkflow as a WF-net by connecting WFnets representing its constituent workflows. We also indicate that if free choice WF-nets are connected by means of any combination of the three patterns then the resultant WF-net is asymmetric choice. Next we discuss verification of WF-nets obtained through the modeling method. Intuitively, a WF-net is said to be sound if, for any case, the initial state is always transformed to the final state. Unfortunately, even if every constituent WF-net is sound FC, the resultant WF-net is not always sound. We give a sufficient condition of non-soundness checkable in polynomial time. We also show that if they are connected by only the Nested pattern then the resultant WF-net is sound. key words: interworkflow, interoperability, workflow net, Petri net, soundness

Polynomial Time Verification of Behavioral Inheritance for Interworkflows Based on WfMC Protocol

The Workflow Management Coalition, WfMC for short, has given a protocol for interorganizational workflows, interworkflows for short. In the protocol, an interworkflow is constructed by connecting two or more existing workflows; and there are three models to connect those workflows: chained, nested, and parallel synchronized. Business continuity requires the interworkflow to preserve the behavio...

Vérification Formelle des Processus Workflow Collaboratifs

In this paper, we present a method of verification of collaborative workflow processes based on model checking techniques. In particular, we propose to verify soundness properties of these processes using SPIN model checker. First we translate the adopted specification of workflows (i.e. the WF-net) to Promela which is the description language of models to be verified by SPIN. Then we express t...

Safety and Soundness for Priced Resource-Constrained Workflow Nets

We extend workflow Petri nets (wf-nets) with discrete prices, by associating a price to the execution of a transition and to the storage of tokens. We first define the safety and the soundness problems for priced wf-nets. A priced wf-net is safe if no execution costs more than a given budget. The soundness problem is that of deciding whether the workflow can always terminate properly, where in ...

Formulating the Data-Flow Modeling and Verification for Workflow: A Petri Net based Approach

Control-flow and data-flow modeling and verification are two important challenges for traditional workflow management. To formulate the data-flow modeling and verification, a Petri Net based approach is proposed in this paper. More specifically, the WFIO-net, which is a kind of WF-net by extending each activity with its read and write data sets, is first presented to model both the control-flow...

Finding AND-OR Hierarchies in Workflow Nets

This paper presents the notion of AND-OR reduction, which reduces a WF net to a smaller net by iteratively contracting certain well-formed subnets into single nodes until no more such contractions are possible. This reduction can reveal the hierarchical structure of a WF net, and since it preserves certain semantical properties such as soundness, it can help with analysing and understanding why...
